Full Description

Medieval inhumation cemetery discovered during excavations on Castle Hill from 1951-1955. Two phases were revealed, the first comprising burials of the late C11 to early C12 and the second, burials of mid to late C12 . Two of the later burials were in stone coffins. All the burials were orientated E-W and contained no grave goods. They seem to be associated with a possible chapel (M17214) are probably related to a DMV in the same area (M1776). (1) (2).
See M1775 for nearby Augustinian Priory.
