Full Description
Pair of headstocks and linking powerhouse. Built 1950-51 for the Bolsover Colliery Co. (1)
The headstones use a Koepe winding system. According to Griffin (1971) there were two other locations where these were used by the 1960's. Firstly, Ashington (Northumberland) … was probably the earliest Koepe winding system. [These] were installed in 1922 and were successful. Secondly was the more modern colliery of Bevercotes. The headstocks at Ashington and Bevercotes have been demolished. (2)
The striking headstocks [are] some of the tallest in the country at 65m high. The mine … has two of the deepest shafts in the country, approximately 920m deep. (3)
