Full Description

NOW DEMOLISHED
Nineteenth century farm building with stables and outbuildings. Modern glass conservatory. Barn has slate roof and straight breathers. (1)
Glebe Farm, formerly known as Lambley Lane Farm, was built between the publication of Sanderson's Map in 1835 and the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1885 where it appears as a regular U-shape courtyard plan, as it still does today (2017). However, it is apparent the farmstead had undergone significant change. Initially it was probably an L-shaped plan comprised the farmhouse…the barn…and the stable as they all share the same general characteristics. The loose box, may also belong to this phase as it is very similar to the other buildings and of particular note has the two oversailing courses beneath the eaves. The Cowhouse was built after the loose box as it incorporates the west gable wall of the loose box into its build though it could still be contemporary with it. There is no clear relationship between the pigsty and the cowhouse though it is certainly earlier than the shelter shed, as the location of the shelter shed would place the pigsty in an unpractical location within the farmyard. Though a building is shown on the 1885 [map] in the location of the shelter shed; it has to be noted that it has Staffordshire blue engineering brocks present within its fabric. These bricks are also present in the yard wall and importantly within the goose house suggesting that the three structures are contemporary. Cartographic evidence indicates that the goose house was built between 1900 and 1914 and thus the shelter shed could be an early C20 rebuild. Building '03' used to house livestock, was constructed during the mid-C20 and the stable (09), between 1958 and 1969. (2)
