Full Description

Thoresby … House by Carr, 1767-71. In 1865-75 a new stone mansion was erected. (1)
Named 'Thoresby House'. (2)
It was a red brick building , two and a half storeys high, with a pediment supported by Ionic columns on the principal front. The main entrance opening into the hall was by a stone basement … over £30,000 was spent on further improvements and alterations to Thoresby between 1789 and 1804, including rectifying settlement on the south side of the house. … in 1860 … he favoured a house on a slightly higher elevation away from the lake … work began on building it in 1864, but it was not until 1868 that the second house was finally demolished.
