Full Description

? Round barrow mentioned by Rooke. (1)
This is a reference to 2 probable bowl barrows opened by Rooke (see 02586) - supposed to be close to "camp", Oswald has either made a mis-siting or has wrongly associated a mound he has seen with one of Rooke's. (2)
No trace of barrow(s) was seen in the area indicated. On the N side of Ricket Lane is an area of high ground with undulating natural knolls under a young cereal crop. It is possible that, before ploughing, one or more of these knolls may have been thought to be a barrow. (3)
See M2586 for more likely site of barrows, L2559 for earthworks to W.
