Bridge carrying Bridgegate over the River Idle. Triple span stone structure with metal railings, plaque on the base of the railings shows a date of 1924, however base and cutwaters suggest an earlier date. Bridging structure right next to the bridge is the remains of the mill that stood there, two arches remain, one under a private garden (1)

The present bridge at East Retford may be the one "partly rebuilt and widened" in 1794. There were, however, earlier ones, as Leland records a bridge but gives no details, and in the year 1385 pontage was granted to "bailiffs of Retford-in-the-Clay for the repair of the bridge over the Idel". (4)
Timbers from Bridgegate Bridge, 1988 … none of the 4 dated timbers appear to be contemporary which suggests that this area may have a complex series of timber structures associated with it. (5)
