Full Description

Leland mentions a stone bridge at Mattersay, but the present one is of late C18 design. The three stone arches are semi-circular in shape with brick string courses, and there are stone pilasters over the cut-waters. The width between the parapets is slightly over 10ft. In the C17 the tolls of Mattersay Bridge belonged to the Corporation of Nottingham. (1)
Bridge carrying a footpath over the River Idle. Single span modern bridge, earlier (? Georgian) approach remains of brick and stone construction. Owner of a nearby house mentioned 1958 for the old bridge's demolition. (2)
Crossing marked on Sanderson (3) and Chapman (4).
