Full Description
Built 1800, demolished 1820. The baths, which had 3 classes charging fees of 6d, 4d and 2d, were supplied by a spring of mineral water noted for curing rheumatism and scurvy. They were originally owned by Sir Thomas White, but the property was sold to the Duke of Newcastle. The Bath House was pulled down and the stone was removed to Markham Clinton (W Markham) and used in building the new church. (1)
Hollywell Baths were situated on Lincoln Road near the station. The Bath House was taken down in 1820 because some of the local youths by their noisy conduct made the baths a nuisance on Sundays. The stone was removed to Markham Clinton and used in the building of the Mausoleum. (2)
See M5746 for well, M4663 for later baths.
