Full Description
Burnt material was discovered at Waycar Pasture during top soil stripping. Further trial pits and augering proved the burnt material to comprise a low, roughly oval, mound of burnt stone and black soil some 10 x 12m across, typical of a class of feature known as a ‘burnt mound’. The mound survived to a height of 0.4m. (1)
A grog tempered body sherd, fabric typical of BA, was found below burnt mound material. Pieces of burnt clay were mostly restricted to one area close to the palaeochannel. Stone artefacts included a waisted pebble and a whetstone (both burnt) and some flintwork which was found predominantly in two areas [sic]. (2)
