Full Description

The Hall (1)
Stood on Main Street at the corner of Padleys Lane, about 200 yards northwest of St. Helen's Church. The original house was probably built c. 1500 and was the seat of the Padley family from 1560 to 1860. It was enlarged at least twice in its history. The last Hall to stand on the site was a three storey, three bay red brick house built at the end of the C18 on a rectangular four room plan. A kitchen was added to the southwest side in the C19. At the same time additions were made to the back (north-west side) of the house and a projecting bay added to the north rooms. In front of the doorway was a porch carried on Tuscan columns. Part of the house's cellar was used as the village lockup under the Padley's ownership. The gardens … were on the opposite side of the road. The Hall was demolished 1961-62. (2)
