Full Description

Cocker House. (1)
Although the name 'Cockhagh' ('cock enclosure') from which Cocker derives dates back to C15, Cocker House is first mentioned by name in 1828 …was probably built by William Roe, a local builder and stonemason. … In 1959-60 the house became empty and its fixtures and fittings removed. It then became buried under waste from nearby opencast mining operations. Cockerhouse road is all that remains to mark the approximate site of the house. (2)
