Full Description

Cockglode. (1)
Stood on a gentle rise in Sherwood Forest about one mile west of Ollerton. Reverend William Sterne of Averham leased nineteen acres of land within Bilhagh from the Earl of Oxford in 1724 and had a house built on the site. In 1776 Dr. George Aldridge leased the premises from the Duke of Portland and built an elegant Georgian house (complete by 1778) in its place. … Cecil George Savile Foljambe enlarged the house in 1884 by adding a full-height wing and other buildings. … In 1956 the house was abandoned completely. It was demolished shortly before waste from Thoresby Colliery overwhelmed the site. (2)
