Full Description

Sir Thomas Parkyns of Bunny purchased Shirley's Manor at East Leake in about 1700. He chose the western limit of an ancient moated enclosure as the site for the great house …built in 1704 about one hundred yards west of St. Mary's Church. … It had windows on all sides giving it the appearance of having more glass than wall. … it was never inhabited and was pulled down in 1785. Some of the stone was incorporated into the bridge over the River Soar at Kegworth. (1)
