Full Description

Gilcroft House. (1)
As a local place name Gilcroft dates back to at least the early C17, but Gilcroft House was largely a Georgian mansion. It was situated at the junction of Brunts Street and Alben Street, with extensive grounds bounded by present day Midworth Street and Church Lane. The site today is partly marked by Gilcroft Street. The house contained four principal reception rooms, billiard room, gunroom, ten bedrooms, kitchen, cellar and attics. A new wing was added on the north side in 1828. The house was demolished soon after 1903 when this part of Mansfield was redeveloped. (2)
