Full Description

An irregular patch of fine brown sandy material, extending c.8m N-S protruded from the E baulk in the S half of the trench. A W-E section across this deposit showed the feature to have been dug to a maximum depth of only c.0.4m into the gravel at this point and have a basal gravelly fill. It cut through ridge and furrow and produced only post medieval finds (all in its upper fill). Its irregular plan and profile suggest that it may be a small gravel extraction hollow, possibly backfilled at a later date. (1)
