Full Description
Brick kiln. (1)
Earthwork (2), may be clay extraction pit. Not on First Edition. (3)
In front of the E range of buildings at Brickyard Farm, the modern road was bedded on … dark soil incorporating frequent brick fragments … another layer also incorporated brick rubble. Both these deposits were interpreted as deliberately tipped in a hollow section of the unmetalled road, possibly in a single episode. From the place name evidence it is assumed that the material was at least partially derived from waste from the brickyard / kiln; the brick fragments were from unfrogged bricks and were probably late C18 in date.
