Full Description

An area of fire cracked pebbles, situated on a slightly raised ridge between two probable palaeochannels. A plan of the density of the burnt stone on the surface … gave one area with a high density of burnt stone of some 20 x 16m and confirmed the scatter of burnt stone along the ridge. Test pits demonstrated that there was no surviving stratigraphy, but features were located in two of the test pits. No dating evidence was recovered, but there are two possible interpretations. One is for a burnt mound, and the other is a Ro farmstead … The location of this site, on the floodplain and between two palaeochannels implying proximity to water, is a classic burnt mound location.
