Full Description

A dense cluster of flintwork some 100m x 170m on a promontory running approximately parallel with the present course of the river. Remarkably, the collection is all Mesolithic except in the N part of the scatter where some BA flint was recovered. The scatter includes two areas where diagnostic material is clustered; one contains the full range of classic Mesolithic types. This tool range, coupled with its rivurine location, would suggest a lowland 'home base' of migratory hunters and gatherers. The variability in the number of flints per test pit show that the preserved scatter below the ploughsoil does not have an even density. … the test pits … including spalls indicative of a knapping focus.
