Full Description

A sub-rectangular single ditched enclosure within the brickwork plan field system. In use from C1 AD through to C3 or C4. The enclosure may have been constructed significantly later than the fields. The pottery recovered appears to suggest a fairly low status site. The nature of the field ditches is not typical of the known ditches of the brickwork field system. (1)
The enclosure was small and rectangular with an entrance on its E side. Six field ditches were exposed, three of which formed an enclosed area to the E of the enclosure which restricted access to the entrance. In mid C2 there was an expansion in the range of pottery fabrics coming to the site, particularly Doncaster kiln greyware. Smithing and domestic activities seem to have been carried out in the southern part of the area. The N side contained many large pits, possibly for storage. It appears that both animals and crops were elements within the agricultural economy of the site. (2)
See M4880 for nearby Ro settlement and further cross references.
