Full Description

At the downstream end of Snake Pond (dried up) stands a dam thought to date from c.1750. The dam wall is some 17.35m in length, aligned NW - SE and capped by sandstone blocks. The facing wall constructed of dressed sandstone blocks, bedded on limestone mortar. Removal of stonework continued to the base of the sluice. A cast iron sluice box was exposed . Also removed was the base of the sluice gate lifting gear, a circular cast iron barrel. Water now runs through a culvert, the original line of the face of the dam has been maintained, where it remains. (1)
