Full Description

Three features containing Beaker vessels were found. Two were complete and therefore probably burials; the third was represented by fragments but may also have been the remains of a burial. No human remains were found with any, suggesting that they were all inhumations which had dissolved in the acid soil. The most easterly lay close to the centre of a sub-square area defined by gullies though there is no certainty that the two were contemporary. The second lay some 30m to the SW and consisted of a complete vessel lying immediately beneath the topsoil; it was not in a visible pit, suggesting that the location had suffered considerable erosion. The third was the best preserved, lying in a rectangular pit. A complete beaker lay in the N-E corner, two flint blades at the W end together with a lump of iron rich material, possibly iron pyrites. The grave was lined on all four sides with logs, each with a charred face. (1)
See L11963 for boundaries and L11964 for cultivation remains.
