Full Description
Linear inhumation cemetery along the edge of a gravel terrace. Around 50m N-S and over 350m W-E, though the E end not found within the excavation area. Several inhumations contained within ring ditches of c.4-5m diameter, several other ring ditches with no apparent graves probably of similar date. Cemetery probably sited to due to prehistoric ring ditches. Evidence for extensive truncation by ploughing, especially in W area. Depths of excavated graves between 0.1 and 0.6m. Grave sizes between 1 and 2.6m, implying juvenile as well as adult burials. No bone due to acid soils, finds included common iron objects, pottery and rarer bronze. Around 80 graves excavated, c.150m stretch in middle preserved in situ. (1) (2)
