Full Description

Repton's 1791 plan also showed a corn mill in the vicinity of the river and the east end of the canal. This new mill was constructed in 1772. On a map of c 1810 the mill is not shown, though other buildings in the area are. Most of the features recorded may be related in one form or another to the presence of the former corn-mill, part of which probably survives in area C, with piles, planking and brickwork still evident. Most of the building may have lain to the N of area C, this would explain the stonework at 0006 and the other masonry found exposed in the NE edge of the river beyond here. (1)
See M18391 for nearby formal canal.
