Full Description

Ro urn found AD 1820. (1)
Whilst digging out the ground for the foundation of Mantles House ... Torworth (in 1820) ... a Ro urn, 10in in diameter, was found, covered with a globular vessel, supposed to contain a human heart. (2)
A photo in the possession of the dowager Lady Galway of Serlby Hall depicts an urn and with it the following quote: "A Ro urn found by Mr William Crofts when digging the foundations of the Mantles House in 1820. Mr Crofts called the house "The Mantles" in remembrance of the covering of cloaks over the Ro soldier's grave." The present whereabouts of the urn is not known. It would not appear to be Ro. (3)
BA pygmy cup - photo only of vessel said to be Ro when found in 1820 (photo held by current owner of The Mantles, sketch in notebook). (4)
This find could plausibly represent a BA burial, probably a cremation. (5)
