Full Description

Smoothly worked stone crucifix mounting a tapering plinth set on a three step basen approx 3.5M in height. Inscription engraved into marble set on all four sides of plinth and on first step of one side. Inscriptions dedicated to both WW1 and WW2 veterans. (1)

The war memorial stands as a plain smoothly worked celtic style wheel cross on tapering plinth and two stepped base. The memorial is approximately 3.5 meters in height. It is sited within a square enclosure consisting of a smooth stone dwarf wall topped with an iron post and chain link fence.

The memorial is located within the centre of the cemetery plan flanked by two central pathways and in line with a cetnral line of trees which run the length of the cemetery. The memorial appears to have been considered as part of the planned layout of a cemetery extension which appears after the 2nd edition revised 1.25 inch Ordnance Survey. (2)

The design of the memorial cross and base is almost identical to the memorial at nearby Newstead and likely by the same Architect/Masons.
