Full Description

About 25 years ago (c 1860) a trap decoy was constructed here on the plan of the one at Haughton (see M8712). It is, however, much smaller in size, being only 24ft long and 8ft high. The keeper approaches the decoy by a sunken path surrounded by thick evergreens and the trap door is lowered from a distance by a system of pulleys and wire. This small decoy was abandoned about 1880, when the lake, which was silting up, was dredged. (1) (2)
