Full Description

Mike Bishop received a call from Sgt Sturman of Harworth Police Station, informing him that human remains had been found during construction at Serlby Hall. Apparently these consisted of ribs, vertebrae, skull and jaw, found in a narrow trench 18in to 5ft deep. See Skeletal analysis reports by Mike, at least two individuals represented. Ursilla went to inspect the site, and took 2 poloroids and made a sketch of the position of the finds, which were in a pipeline trench running eastwards from Serlby Hall itself, along the roadway. See photos, plans and notes. As the area was due to be re-graded and 23 pits dug for tree-planting, Ursilla arranged to be on site to conduct a watching brief starting from 07/09/1992. She also arranged the Home Office Licence for the bodies previously discovered. As the banks along the roadway were being regraded, many bodies were uncovered (c 30) and could not possibly be dealt with, 2 ish were lifted but the rest left in situ. (1)
See M4876 for the chapel site at Selby Hall.
