Full Description

Test Pit 11 had approximately 20cm of overburden underlying the turf, with a reddish-brown clay layer directly underneath. The pit was tested to a depth of 60cm with no change. Again, artefacts were mixed, with green-glazed pottery recovered at c.30cm, and modern pottery at 60cm. This test pit produced the largest group of pottery to be recovered from the project with 208 sherds representing 90 vessels. Most of the pottery is of late post-medieval to early modern date. The only medieval vessel is a Reduced Nottingham Green Glazed ware jug of late 13th to 14th century date. There are however five late medieval to early post-medieval vessels. (1)
