Full Description

Test Pit 15 had approximately 10cm of overburden underlying the turf, with a red clay layer directly underneath. The pit was tested to a depth of 60cm with no change. Artefacts recovered were mainly CBM, including two full bricks at a depth of c.40cm and floor tiles at c. 30cm. Only 11 sherds of pottery were recovered, with one exception all of early modern date. A small sherd from a jar or bowl in a North Nottinghamshire quartz and shell-tempered fabric is of mid 12th to 13th century date. (1)
