Excavations by APS at the Pepper family monument found no tomb beneath. Finds included 13th-14th century pottery and a 16th-18thc bell casting mould.

Full Description

Trench 4 was situated on the eastern side of the Pepper family tomb… and revealed no evidence of a tomb beneath the monument. The lower deposit produced CBM, mortar, disarticulated human bone, a stone block and three sherds of 13th to 14th century Nottingham Light Bodied Glazed are pottery. The deposit above this produced 16th to 18th century tile and a fragment of a ceramic bell casting mould. The deposit overlying this produced CBM and a 17th century clay pipe stem. The Pepper family tomb monument had been placed on the surface of this deposit. (1)
