Full Description

Observation during the initial site stripping resulted in noting the presence of frequent fragments of moulded glass dating to the later nineteenth century and later. One small shoulder fragment of a black glass cylinder bottle was also noted. A small assemblage of pottery was collected during initial site preparation. This was dominated by white glazed earthenware and Cornish ware. Three earlier sherds were also noted including a body sherd of Midland black glazed red earthenware; a shoulder of Nottingham/South Derbyshire brown salt glazed stoneware and a base sherd of a salt glazed white ware. The white ware can be dated to c. 1720-80 whilst the others, although potentially earlier, were of forms more typical of the late C18th-early C19th. The group is fragmentary and typical of the background material to be expected in a former garden. (1)
