Full Description

Foundations of a possible wall were exposed in trench 2. Heavily truncated and function unclear. Either a property boundary for plots running between Castlegate and Middlegate or a building within such a plot. Associated demolition layer contained roof tile fragments dating to the 13th -17th centuries and overlying layers produced tile fragments of the same date and a single sherd of 18th century pottery. Both trenches evidenced a considerable depth of modern deposits reflecting the typical process of build up in an urban environment. (1)
