Full Description

(Now Demolished for retail park)
A large brick-built warehousing complex of 3 main building phases (04 in TPAT report). The main areas here distinguished as A-C.(1)
A) Southern section of the storage area - 5 bays long and 3 bays wide. Single storey, with a raised floor area above a large sub-basement, lit by windows with segmental heads. Two internal dividing walls between bays 2-3 and 4-5. External brickwork in English garden wall bond (1:3:1) with blue brick detailing, dentilation and oculi with keystone effect. All gable bays have round-headed door and window openings, although the furthest bays on either side have flat-headed openings. There are distinctive round columns and a steel girdered roof structure, with basement area and blocked off tunnel across to the Brewhouse. The NE wall remains intact with its round-headed openings, mostly made rectangular when the second phase was built. The structure has a date stone of 1906 on the central SW bay. A building was here between 1883-1900 and the present basement may retain parts of this earlier structure. (Structure 04a in TPAT report)(Basement not surveyed). (1)
B) A 4 bay extension of the 1906 building to the NE. Built in a similar style, this differs externally only by having flat-headed openings. The basement area has a reinforced concrete multi-arched ceiling. The west end has a small internal office and outside, an adjoining toilet block. This section was added in 1938 and both 4a and 4b were used as the main bottling and storage area for the brewery. (Structure 04b in TPAT report) (1)
C) A modern brown-brick extension added in 1963. Of wide single span, this area is 11 bays long with an internal wall separating off a further 3 bays. With large folding doors to allow vehicle access, this plain structure otherwise lacks windows. (Structure 04c in TPAT report) (1)
