Full Description

Built early 20th century, to replace another church built in the 19th century. (1)
Original St Thomas church pre 1879 not located at this site. St Thomas on this site on OS map from 1901. Highly decorative building in traditional red brick with stone string courses throughout. The architect for the new church was Louis Ambler, who designed the building in a style of English Gothic of the early 15th century. The nave and aisles divided into five bays, octagonal stone columns and moulded arches springing from piers without capitals. Intricate stone design around window is unusual.
