Full Description
Demolioshed 2023.
Primitive Methodist now in use as a clothing showroom and warehouse, built in 1928. (1)
The Methodist church was designed by F.W. Tempest and foundations were dug in 1927. Tempest
had designed several churches in Nottinghamshire which followed the same or similar styles to
that in Blidworth. From the first phase the historic fabric retained relates to the south, north and
east elevations, whilst much has been removed on the west. Wooden panelling in the chancel,
boarded ceiling, roof trusses and potentially floorboards also remain. The structure was extended
in the second phase by filling in the area between the porch and northeast wing. In 1970 the two
Methodist churches in Blidworth were merged and that on Dale Lane became redundant as a place
of worship. During phase three the church was converted to a factory making men’s clothes, by
Guy Warwick Ltd. The factory was extended to the west and thus filling the remaining of the plot.
This company owned several factories and became one of the largest employers in the area but
had to fold in 1992/1993 due to the recession. The factories were bought up by the Walesby
affiliate Major Oak Clothing Co in 1993 which carried on until production moved abroad. After
2005 the large factory to the west was demolished and the company transformed the former
church and factory floor to a retail shop and extra stud walls were raised for divisions and changing
rooms. (2)
