Full Description
Farmstead dating back to the 17th Century. Clearly identifiable on the 1835 Sanderson's map. The buildings are stone (local magnesian limestone) with a 20th Century concrete tle roof covering. By the end of the 19th Century the public house (Miner's Arms) to the road side had been built as an extension to the original farm cottage, together with other smaller presumably agricultural buildings. The original residential farm cottage is easily identifiable by its chimney stack, 4 windows and central door all with heavy stone jambs. The first floor central window appears to be a later addition denoted by its thinner jambs. The cottage may be referred to as baffle entry cottage due to the association of the chimney stack with the central door. The cottage retains quions to the left hand side; there is no evidence of quoins elsewhere. It is possible that the cottage was extended thus removing of quoins to the right hand side. (1)
Locally Listed by Ashfield District Council (ADC Ref: 907) (1). Stone built terrace to the rear of The Miners Arms (Street View 2020, accessed Oct 2020 JB - NCC).
