Full Description

Two substantial earthwork banks in Beech Hill Wood south of Rufford Abbey. These don't appear on any of the historic mapping but are clear on the ground and on Lidar imagery. The banks are substantial and have breaks within them. The association with the nearby remains of a pillbox suggest that this was some sort of training earthwork constructed during WWII, but currently there are no other known records to offer further interpretation. The banks run parallel to each-other and run approximately north-south, with a curve to the east at the northern end. Each bank is approximately 217m in length. The area is now covered in woodland.
