Full Description
Brick built with brick butresses, gables are coped and have ball finials. Slate roof with decorative ridge tiles. (1)(Pers Comm J Buckley from ADC photo).
The original school building of 1873 is now in private ownership; the contemporary master’s house is still in County Council ownership, probably by J.P.Adlington, date to 1888. Adlington’s buildings are of brick, in the Queen Anne style, with a little sculptural effect provided by buttresses and hipped dormers. The gable ends have pilasters and some good terracotta detailing; there are ornate stone entrance arches. Whilst the original rainwater goods survive intact, all windows are modern. Principal window openings are segmental brick arches with keystones; minor openings have stone lintels. In the GROUNDS, a covered playground survive along with original gate piers and gates. The interior survives basically intact; original doors, floors, partitions and roof structures survive throughout, as well as vent boxes and glazed tile walls with dado rails. (2)
