Full Description

Grave of English boxing champion, Ben Caunt (1815-1861). A bareknuckle boxer before glove boxing was introduced, and became the English heavyweight champion on May 11, 1841, by defeating Nick Ward. He held the title until September 9, 1845, when he was defeated by William Thompson. He is said to have had a booming voice, coming from a 6'2" barrel-chested frame. After his death, another booming voice of the area was named after him - the hour bell of Westminster takes its name from the man known as "Big Ben."
