Full Description

Shown on the Chaworth Estates map of 1817, then known as 'Oak Wood', also shown on Sanderson’s map of 1835 (1). Lies wholly within Annesley and Felley Parish, in the Greenbelt. Natural England have confirmed the site is recognised as Ancient Woodland and NGBRC classified the site as a SINC in September 2012. The hedge line to the north of the plantation formed the boundary between His Grace the Duke of Portland and J.Chaworth's land. A boundary dispute which cost the lives of men was settled in the 1600'd. TPO283 on woodland. Permanent footpath recognition has been submitted to Nott's CC. (2)
