Full Description

Does not appear on Sanderson's map (1835) but does appear on Ordnance Survey map surveyed in 1883 (1), when the principal building is a T-Plan with an L-Plan rear extension. Stable and outbuildings running along the SW boundary were all built by 1883. A wall divided the front garden from the stabling forming an enclosed yard with access to the road. The property had (and still retains in 2022) a long plot which was planted as an orchard, as were the plots of the neighbouring properties. By 1899 the house had been extended to the NE and the orchard directly behind the house had been cleared and an outbuilding erected on the NE boundary. By 1913 the main residence had been extended to the rear and a detached outbuilding erected directly behind the main house (2). This arrangement existed until at least 1938 (3). The late C20 and C21 have seen the addition of bay windows to the ground floor of the principal elevation, extension to the rear of the main residence and erection of a detached building to the NW of the main residence in the location of the former detached outbuilding.
HOUSE: Brick-built (Flemish bond) Mid C19 detached house. Front elevation symmetrical, stone steps lead to replacement door under plain glass overlight under a splayed stone lintel. Door is now flanked by later bay windows. 2 over 2 sash windows retained on the upper storey, all 3 under splayed head, stone lintels, under cogged and dentilated eaves, under a pantile roof with gable end stacks. STABLE & OUTBUILDINGS: Running away from the road- The gable end shows a roof scar and retained wall stubs of a former single storey attached building now demolished. Two-storey brick-built stable under a pantile roof with split door under a curved brick arch. Casement window beside door with hayloft hatch above, infilled with smaller window frame. Single storey outbuiling attached to the NE gable has plank door and two casement windows. Small open-fronted infill range to the NE, brick-built with pantile roof in poor repair. Original gable end of the final single-storey building has a later front elevation keyed in and has been reroofed. (4) (NCC Survey 2022)
