The Crown Inn was the scene of a number of Coroner's Inquests into fatalities at Cossall Colliery, including: William Robinson (aged 55) on the 30th August 1883 accidental death by fall of roof; George Henry Statham (aged 17) on the 14th May 1885 accidental death having been run over by tubs; William Green (aged 15) and William Horton (aged 14) on the 10th October 1888 accidental deaths by a fall in a roadway.
