Full Description
A Board School designed by architects Vallance and Westwick in 1901 and completed in 1903. The site contains a main school building for girls and boys and a smaller building for infants. The main building is a textbook example of the ‘Ben Jonson’ Plan. It is fairly plain, but identifiably in the ‘Queen Anne’ style. The window openings have flat arches beneath ornate hoodmoulds and the original sash windows survive. The boundary wall has been rebuilt in several places reusing the original stonework. Inside sliding partitions off the main hall have been removed. Original doors, fireplaces and roof structures remain, as does a large brass dedication plaque; the walls have standard glazed tiles beneath a dado rail. Original gates and railings also remain. Roof has large cupola. Infant block has been retiled. (NCC Schools Survey 2004)(1)
