Full Description
A national school built in 1857 to the designs of William Kerby. The Boys’ schoolroom was rebuilt in the mid C20. Large buttressed building with dormers and bay window. It has a stone spire on the west end which is a landmark feature. The principal windows have original iron casements set in traceried stone surrounds; minor opening have modern wood casements. The master’s house is incorporated into the school. The original railings still front the building. There is an octagonal chimney on the girls’ schoolroom. (NCC Schools Survey 2004) (1)
Separate brick-built (English Garden wall bond range to the east (gable end now unsympathically refaced). Seven window openings with hood moulds line each side of the building, some have multi-pane windows others infilled. Slate roof with ridge chimney stack. (2)
