Full Description

A single sherd of pottery was retrieved from subsoil 1002 in a trnech central to the site: the sherd is very abraded, but may once have been fingertip impressed, and its fabric is consistent with Neolithic pottery found during archaeological work at the Park and Ride development immediately to the north of Fairham Pastures.

At the lower-lying southern side of the site, subsoil produced a later Neolithic to earlier Bronze Age flint scraper.

It is probably also significant that the two unstratified prehistoric finds were lower down the slope than the discovered pit, suggesting that they had been ploughed out of that feature or one nearby on the high ground and had been moved down the hill by ploughing and/or natural processes of soil and water movement.
