Full Description
Demolished.
First shown on the 1919 Ordnance Survey map. However, it is possible that a pub was originally op-erating here as early as 1854 and was rebuilt in 1900. It is a typical Edwardian multi-winged and painted red brick structure with large gallery windows facing the High Street, of two storeys with cellar. The roof is covered in plain red tiles with chimneys facing southwest and northeast, a northwest chimney has been removed. The structure stayed more or less the same for over 83 years and has, since 1983, had the addition of two single-storey extensions sweeping around the north corner. The extension allowed for further seating area and dining room as well as additional WCs and an extended kitchen and caused some loss of historic material in the northeast wall of the north wing. The survey showed no surviving elements of the former farmhouse and this must have been eradicated in the 1900s rebuild. (1)
