Full Description

In the south-east of the PDA the geophysical survey has revealed a substantial rectilinear enclosure of c.63m x 63m. Inside the enclosure there is evidence of a large internal feature and associated pits of unknown origin which may be heavily truncated. A number of discrete anomalies mainly recorded to the south-east of the internal feature could also indicate the presence of archaeological remains. There is also evidence of possible opposing entrances to the enclosure in the east and west. A similar enclosure in this part of the site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the Nottinghamshire Mapping Project. The feature is of probable Iron Age or Romano British origin although at c.63m x 63m it would be a large example.
