Full Description

The earliest feature recorded on site was a sub-oval pit, which contained two large sherds of Charnwood-tempered cooking pot dating from the 5th to the 9th century.

It was backfilled with dark grey/brown sandy clay and environmental evidence from this deposit consisted mainly of charcoal and coal fragments with some barley grains. A small number of indeterminate animal bones were also recovered.

No other archaeological deposits could attributed to this phase.
