Full Description
The post-medieval phase of activity is represented by three pits which can be broadly dated to the 18th-20th century.
Two circular pits were both found to be too deep for safe excavation, with one pit found to be 4.35m deep and the other was 3.1m deep when hand augered.
The first pit was cut through an earlier ditch of late medieval date and contained pottery dating from the late 18th-19th century along wih a small number of animal bones and a piece of late 18th century clay tobacco pipe within its backfill.
The second pit was backfilled with grey/brown sandy silt and contained pottery dating from the 19th-20th centuries, as well as clay pipe sems of 17th-19th century date, glass and animal bone.
A third pit was void in plan and 0.9m deep and contained pottery dating to the 18th century, as well as window glass and a clay pipe, this pit cut through an earlier medieval ditch
