Full Description
Two features were sealed beneath colluvium in one trench, suggesting a potential early date. A gully (2.2 x 1.15 x 0.3 m) was orientated south-west to north-east. It contained a reddish grey brown fill. No finds were present. Aligned north-west to south-east, pit or ditch terminal (1.3 x 2.30 x 0.50 m) contained two fills.
A sub-circular pit (1.20 m diameter and 0.50 m deep) in another trench contained grey brown sandy silt. No finds were present.
A third evaluation contained a sub-circular posthole with shallow concave sides and a flat base (0.48 x 0.47 x 0.20 m). It had a single fill of dark black grey sandy silt. In plan, it was close to probable Iron Age/Romano-British gully, however the posthole did not occupy the same stratigraphic position, as it was cut from 0.88 m below ground level, rather than from 1.12 m for the gully, demonstrating that they were not contemporary.
